Insecticide Treated Nets and Re-treatment Kits: Chitetezo and M'bwezera Chitetezo
PSI/Malawi's Chitetezo ITNs were introduced in 1998, and are sold through two programs: a premium net serves the high-end commercial market, while highly subsidized nets are distributed through antenatal health clinics and community based efforts to serve rural inhabitants (primarily pregnant women and caregivers with children under five) who are most at risk of malaria infection.
Sustainable malaria prevention is most effective when a net is treated annually with insecticide. To this end, PSI/Malawi promotes its M'bwezera Chitetezo brand ITN re-treatment kit, launched in 1998.
Oral Rehydration Salts: Thanzi
Thanzi , a brand of oral rehydration salts (ORS) was launched in 1999 in order to reduce the number of deaths in children under 5 from dehydration caused by diarrhoea.
Safe Water Solution: WaterGuard
In order to address the problem of sourcing safe drinking water, WaterGuard was introduced in 2002. The product consists of a bottled solution of liquid sodium hypochlorite, which when properly mixed, makes most water safe to drink.
